Avid4 Adventure, voted to Outside Magazine's Best Places to Work 4 years in a row, is hiring instructors for our summer day camps in the Bay area. We empowers kids to choose active, outdoor lifestyles.  

Survival Skills Instructors co-lead and mentor a different group of 13 kids in Grades 2-7 (groups formed by grade) every week and guide them through an array of survival skills activities including but not limited to: shelter building, plant identification, bow drills, animal tracking and rescue techniques. This position is responsible for helping campers build a sense of team, supporting campers' sense of comfort and confidence with primitive and survival activities, engaging campers both during and after activities, and maintaining a safety-oriented environment.  Activities will be at both on-site and off-site recreation areas. Just as important, this job is about inspiring campers in new outdoor pursuits and having fun!

 

*Survival Skills Instructors may be asked to fill in for other instructor day camp positions based on enrollment of programs.

 

The CORE Responsibilities of an Instructor:

Happy Campers

  • Provide age- and developmentally- appropriate instruction in wilderness survival skills.
  • Co-lead day trips off-site to recreation areas with a group of up to 13 campers.
  • Serve as a role model and guide campers in appropriate behavior, attitudes, and activities

Stellar Programs

  • Co-lead activities on or off-site (dependent on camper age group and program)
  • Organize and participate in camp programming, ranging from outdoor sports to camp games and rituals

Passionate Staff

  • Provide exceptional customer service to parents and all participants in our programs
  • Be a member of a dynamic staff team and take an active role in the evaluation of campers, programs, and staff

 

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 19 years of age and a sincere passion for working with kids
  • Bachelor's degree in science, education, or related field preferred.
  • Experience teaching primitive & survival wilderness skills.
  • Experience leading youth and a passion for working with kids.
  • First Aid and CPR prior to the start of camp (Staff with Wilderness First Aid or higher do receive additional compensation)
  • Personal experience in at least one of our core sports: mountain biking, rock climbing, paddling or hiking.
  • 21+ years staff that have a CA license will be asked to obtain a CA Commercial Drivers License prior to the start of camp. We support you in multiple ways (including compensation) throughout the process. We will chat more about this during your interview to make sure you have all of the information needed.

 

Important Details:

  • Staff training: begins in early June
  • Camp Dates: Mid-June - Mid-August
  • Work week: Monday - Friday, about 40 hours/week
