Avid4 Adventure (voted #3 on Outside Magazine's 2017 Best Places to Work) is hiring instructors for our summer camps in the Bay Area and Colorado.  As a day camp instructor, you will:

  • Be a leader.
  • Be responsible for inspiring kids (ages 3-12 years old) to lead active outdoor lifestyles through biking, climbing, hiking and paddling.
  • Become part of a community of outdoor professionals and educators who live the values our camps teach. 

The ideal candidates are detail oriented, highly organized, and ready for action. Not an expert in our core sports? Not a problem, we provide the training you need before camp starts. All day camp instructor applicants will complete a general online application. During the interview process, we will determine which type of day camp and role is the best fit with your background.

Are you concerned about your commute to/from camp? We reimburse for all public transportation fares to and from work!


Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide age and developmentally-appropriate instruction in mountain biking, rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, SUPing, Leave No Trace principles, and team building.
  • Serve as a role model for campers in appropriate behavior, language, attitudes, and activities.
  • Thoroughly understand emergency action plans and help implement procedures if necessary.
  • Adhere to all of the policies and procedures of the American Camp Association.

 Job Requirements:

  • Minimum age to apply is 19 years old.
  • Personal or teaching experience in at least 1 of the following sports: climbing, biking, kayaking, canoeing, stand-up paddle boarding, survival skills, outdoor education.
  • A passion for working with kids.
  • First Aid & CPR certifications prior to start date.
    • Wilderness First Aid (WFA) or Community First Aid, dependent on position you are hired to work. WFA staff receive a bump in hourly pay
    • Valid Driver's License is highly preferred. 


  • We reimburse for all public transportation fares to and from work.
  • Hourly rate is paid semi-monthly and varies based on certifications and experience.  View compensation table here.

Mandatory Training Dates:

  • Training is June 2-9. If you are a college student on a quarterly schedule and these dates conflict with your school, we can discuss alternative training dates.  During training, you are paid a training wage, which is the minimum wage in the geographic location in which the training occurs.

Typical Camp Schedule: 

  • 39.25 hours/week, Monday Friday.
