Avid4 Adventure, #3 on Outside Magazine's 2017 Best Places to Work, is hiring Lead Outdoor Cooking Instructors to deliver the Avid4 Adventure Outdoor Cooking curriculum to 3.5-6 year olds. Outdoor cooking is the afternoon portion of our Discovery Camp. Prior to camp, you will be responsible (and paid for) shopping for ingredients for the week. All of the recipes and curriculum for each will will be provided.

Each camp day you will be creating 2-3 recipes with campers that focus on foods commonly eaten while camping or hiking; for example- granola bars, pasta and no bake cookes. Everything will be made on a camp stove in order to showcase what is possible with limited resources while camping! Avid4 Adventure will train staff on the curriuculum and use of camp stove.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide age and developmentally- appropriate instruction in cooking.
  • Provide exceptional customer service to parents and all participants in our programs.
  • Serve as a role model for campers in appropriate behavior, language, attitudes, and activities.
  • Provide guidance, supervision, safety and comfort for participants during all activities.
  • Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of equipment, and report any damages to Camp Director.
  • Participate in staff meetings and program meetings.
  • Take an active role in the continual evaluation of campers, programs, and staff.
  • Adhere to all of the policies and procedures of the American Camp Association.
  • Other duties as requested by the Camp Director.

Job Requirements:

  • Minimum age to apply is 19 years old.
  • Personal or teaching experience in cooking is required.
  • Community First Aid and CPR certifications are required.

Typical Physical Demands & Working Environment:

  • Outdoor activities require ability to bike, hike, climb and kayak at a level that affords an appropriate margin of comfort while instructing students.
  • Work takes place in outdoor environments in variable, sometimes extreme, weather conditions.

Compensation: 

  • We reimburse for all public transportation fares to and from work.
  • Hourly rate is paid semi-monthly and varies based on certifications and experience.  View compensation table here.

Mandatory Training Dates:

  • Training is June 2-9. If you are a college student on a quarterly schedule and these dates conflict with your school, we can discuss alternative training dates.  During training, you are paid a training wage, which is the minimum wage in the geographic location in which the training occurs.
