Avid4 Adventure empowers kids to choose an active, outdoor lifestyle. The Assistant Chef will support the Head Chef in the
preparation, serving, and cleanup of three healthy and fresh meals to residential campers and staff. The Assistant Chef must enjoy working with a team and desire to spend the summer working in a supportive and fun camp environment. This role will report to the Head Chef.

The 3 Bottom Lines for the Assistant Chef:

I. Safety First

  • Aid in ensuring the safety of kitchen operations to maintain an efficient, clean kitchen.
  • Manage all dietary needs/restrictions so that all campers and staff have plenty to eat with a variety of desirable
  • Work with Head Chef to maintain fluent communication between all staff for quality and to stay in compliance
    with state regulations.

II. Stellar Experience

  • Prepare and serve delicious, nutritious meals for all campers and staff.
  • Support the Head Chef by being able to follow directions, read and follow menus, and communicate issues and
  • Work with Leadership Team to manage and provide for different programs, including expeditions, continental
    breakfasts, onsite meals, cookie raids, and more.
  • Engage with the campers and staff and embody a willingness to be part of the camp experience.

III. Passionate Staff

  • Be the leader of the kitchen when the Head Chef is not present.
  • Be an active member of the Dining Services team for cohesion, commitment, and enjoyment.
  • Observe staff performance, conduct evaluations, and provide feedback to team and to Head Chef to ensure best
    performance in the kitchen.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Participate in camp staff training.
  • Help unload kitchen supply truck and put supplies away.
  • Prepare food served using established production procedures and systems.
  • Assist with presentation of food and service as directed.
  • Comply with established sanitation standards, personal hygiene, and health standards.
  • Demonstrate proper food preparation and handling techniques.
  • Assist in proper storage of food within standards.
  • Report necessary equipment repair and maintenance to Head Chef.
  • Maintain cleanliness of entire dining area, including restrooms.
  • Kitchen clean up including proper washing and sterilization of all dishes and food preparation surfaces.
  • Maintain clean, attractive, safe, functional food service equipment and facilities that meet or exceed American
    Camping Association (ACA) standards, State Health Codes and Avid4 Adventure policies and standards.
  • Work with Head Chef in closing down kitchen and packing equipment at end of season.
  • Serve as a role model for campers in appropriate behavior, language, attitudes, and activities.
  • Thoroughly understand emergency action plans and help implement emergency procedures when deemed
  • Participate in staff meetings and program meetings.
  • Communicate and work with staff and provide necessary instruction and communication of safety and
    sanitation procedures.
  • Other duties as requested by the Head Chef or Camp Director.

Job Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • ServSafe Certified
  • Bachelor's preferred
  • Basic CPR and First Aid certifications preferred.
  • Previous experience working in a kitchen.
  • Ability to handle high-stress environments and handle variety of tasks.

Pre-Season Training: June 6-16, 2018
Camp Dates: June 17- July 29 (Windy Peak); June 17-August 12 (Mt. Evans)
