Avid4 Adventure provides camps, school programs, and events that inspire an active outdoor lifestyle through high-adventure outdoor activities. We are actively seeking Directors for several new camp locations. The Camp Director position is an amazing opportunity to lead outdoor adventure day camps for kids in Front Range, CO and around the Bay Area, CA. Avid4 Adventure camps offer kids Pre-K - 7th grades the unique experience of canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, mountain biking, hiking, stand up paddleboarding, and team building all within a one-week day camp.

As a Summer Camp Director, you will manage a professional staff (ages 19+), address the needs of parents, manage the operational aspects of camp day to day, and find fulfillment building a program that inspires kids to love outdoor life. There will be flexible, hourly work in the spring to help facilitate the transition. We are seeking individuals desiring a minimum of a 2 year opportunity.


Core Responsibilities:

Camp Quality

  • Provide excellent customer service to camper families.
  • Develop campers' judgment, personal responsibility, self-esteem, and confidence.
  • Establish a camp community that fosters team building and social development.
  • Enhance campers' environmental understanding and stewardship. Increase physical and outdoor skills while inspiring children towards an outdoor, active lifestyle.      
  • Manage Equipment: Replace, have repaired, or retire equipment if necessary. Ensure equipment and storage pods are in good working order, clean and organized.
  • Uphold excellent appearance and cleanliness standards for your physical camp location.

Staff Management & Development

  • Manage a team of staff (from 10-50, depending on location).
  • Observe staff performance, conduct evaluations, and provide feedback to develop staff members' skills.
  • Organize & lead staff meetings. Provide professional development for staff.
  • If applicable, work alongside an Assistant Director and play an active role in their development.

Oversight of Camp Operations

  • Oversee safety & risk management for courses and the camp program. Responsible for participant screening.
  • Create the weekly camp schedule.
  • Thoroughly understand emergency action plans and help implement procedures if necessary.
  • Assure that First Aid Forms and Incident Report Forms are completed when applicable.


Job Requirements:

  • Minimum 25 years of age. (** Assistant Director & Operations Supervisor positions also available minimum age 23 **).
  • Bachelor's degree in science, education, or related field preferred.
  • Technical skills in: climbing, mountain biking, SUPing, kayaking, and/or canoeing.
  • Experience leading youth and a passion for working with kids.
  • Minimum of Wilderness First Responder prior to camp start date for Camp Directors. Wilderness medical certifications must be delivered by a nationally recognized organization (SOLO, WMI, WMA, Aerie, etc.). Avid does assist with the cost of the WFR certification for Camp Directors.
  • Minimum of Wilderness First Aid prior to camp start date for Assistant Directors & Operations Supervisors. Avid does not assist with the cost of the WFA certification.
  • Basic CPR Certification from American Red Cross or American Heart Association prior to camp start date (CANNOT be a 100% online course). 
  • Canoeing & Kayaking certification which can be obtained during Avid4 Staff training.
  • Valid Driver's License.*
  • High levels of organization, communication, and judgment.

*Avid4 Adventure requires that Directors obtain a commercial driver's license in order to transport campers to and from recreational areas.  Obtaining a CDL requires a specific CDL medical physical and passing two tests at the DMV (written and driving). We will reimburse fees associated with obtaining a CDL. We will discuss this option with you as part of the interview process.


Mandatory Training Dates:

  • Camp Leadership staff are required to attend Camp Director Training in addition to regular staff training. Training begins in early June (exact training dates still TBD). During training, you are paid a training wage, which is the minimum wage in the geographic location in which the training occurs.


Typical Work Schedule

  • Typical camp schedule:
    • Camp day is from 9-3 each day.
    • Instructors work from Monday 7:30am-3:45pm, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday from 8am-3:45.
    • Camp Leadership staff typically work later hours during their first several weeks and must be available over phone to answer any urgent parent concerns in the evenings.
  • Camp dates vary based on location, but start as early as early June and end as late as mid-August.

Camp Leadership Roles and Responsibilities

Roles and responsibilities will shift based on the size of the Leadership Team at each camp. At small camps, the Camp Director will own all the following responsibilities. At larger camps, roles and responsibilities are divided among Leadership Team members, as outlined below. 

Camp Director

  • Lead, manage and hold accountable the Leadership Team and staff.
  • Manage risk; educate others to mitigate risk.
  • Oversee program quality and the customer experience.
  • Review feedback and follow up with parents. 

Assistant Director

  • Ensure accountability for periphery programs like Pre-K programs and after care.
  • Oversee staff and vehicle safety; ensure policies are followed.
  • Own the Late Hire Training experience.
  • Staff Satisfaction- strive to make Avid4 Adventure the best job someone could ever have.

Operations Supervisor

  • Ensure equipment, vans and trailers are in top working order.
  • Oversee the camp photo program.
  • Complete camp paperwork and timesheets.
  • Manage camp phone and email accounts and ensure timely, high quality communication.
